Presbytery of Yukon

Quotes From Joint Presbytery Meeting October 2000

Moderator Fenton Rexford introducing Moderator Dolly Jensen and Himself: "Watch out for us!"

Elder Grayce Oakley (First Pres, Anchorage) giving her General Assembly report: "The Presbyterian Church runs a close second to the US government for generating paper."

Elder Cornelia Stubblefield (First Pres. Fairbanks): "The wind that is blowing through our church is the wind of love, hope expectancy, and overwhelming joy."

Elder (Chapel by the Lake): "We celebrated the baptism of three generations of the same family at the same service."

Elder (Craig/Klawok): "It’s a really good feeling now to be a more self-supporting church."

Elder Sue Erickson (Haines): "We need to be more involved with our hearts, not just our minds. This issue will not go away until God himself opens our minds to show us His will. So, pray, pray, pray."

Rev. Jay Olson-Ketchum about Celebration 2000: Ahh, so that’s what church looks like on our good days---or what we hope we look like---there was color, dance and Pentecost."

Dr. Walter Soboloff: "People are only different in curly hair, complexion. Some are wide. Some are well, whatever. We’re all basically the same kind of people. Cross culture? Yes, by Jesus Christ.

Dr. Henry Faucett: "When you say thank you it ends that transaction. In our culture, when you receive a gift, you are honored and you continue to honor that person in return."

Rob McClure (Synod of Alaska/Northwest): "I’m sure you could assign at least 4 or 5 committees to investigate this."

Eric Chavez (Presbyterian Foundation): "When we get fully mature, who get’s to play with our stuff? If anyone read your will would they know you were a Christian?"

Elder Virgina Kasak (Nuiqsut) sand: "God took nothing and made something of me."

Elder Merrily Jones (Petersburg): "We recently acquired new hymnals which are actually younger than most of our members."

Rev. Nathan Lim (Gambell): "We have done a lot but the glory is yet to come."

Rev. Murray Richmond (Fairbanks): "If you vote for this mission budget, you are voting to go back to your church and fund this Presbytery.  Presbyterians are generous people, we just need to remind them.  There are three frogs on a log.  Two decide to jump.  How many are left on the log?  Three---the two may have decided, but they haven't done anything yet."  After a pause, Rev. Tim Carrick: "Oh, I get it."
